An important and heavy cameo vase by André Delatte (Nancy), crafted from very thick thunder-green glass and decorated with motifs of stylized flowers and leaves in a typical Art Deco style.

By deeply etching the space between the motifs with acid, a cameo-like image in relief is created. The etched glass is rough and pale, while the motif itself is smooth and thunder-green, which enhances the effect.

The vase is signed in relief with “A.Delatte Nancy.”

André Delatte (1887–1953) was a renowned French factory-owner and maître verrier who played a significant role in the then-flourishing glass art scene of Nancy. Although he originally began his career as a banker, he discovered his passion for glass through his friendship with the Muller brothers from Lunéville.

In 1919, he opened his first workshop in the Rue du Faubourg des Trois-Maisons in Nancy. Due to its great success, he founded in 1921 the larger glass factory “Les Verreries de l’Est SA” in Jarville, near Nancy. His designs were inspired by nature and in the style of the School of Nancy. The factory enjoyed growing success and at one point employed more than 60 glassblowers and decorators, many of whom were former Daum employees.  After the economic crisis of 1929, demand dropped sharply. In 1930, the company went into liquidation after losing its main customer, Les Magasins Réunis de Nancy, to its competitor Daum. After several attempts to restart production, the factory closed permanently in 1938.
