The signature “ETALEUNE” is a combination of the letters “ETAblisements LEUNE” and refers to the Verrerie de Leune (1861-1930), which was founded on 15 February 1861 in Epinay sur Seine. Between 1904 and 1914, the Leune factories produced not only medical glassware but also decorative products decorated in the fin d’époque style.
After the First World War, the company moved to 28 bis Rue du Cardinal Lemoine in Paris (5th arrondissement) and followed the fashion of the time by producing cast or blown, colourless or opal glass. Paul Daum, son of Auguste Daum, ran the company in the early 1920s. From 1922 to 1926, Auguste Heiligenstein (1891–1976), a well-known Art Deco designer, became artistic advisor and designed countless motifs for vases and other luxury art objects during that period.
Like many glass factories, the Leune company did not survive the economic crisis of the interwar period and closed its doors in 1929.
