Veerle Lories
1970
Veerle Lories (Halle 1970) is devoted to her hometown on the Scheldt. It is also the place that is the source of inspiration for her visual work.
She searches for peace and quiet and wants to express this in the bronze sculptures she makes. It is because of this search for peace and quiet that she chooses a design in which she wants to reach the essence of the form. This means leaving out details that are not relevant to the form; simplification is the description that applies to her sculptures. For Veerle, “less is more” applies. She adds to that simplicity of form. The sculptures are polished smooth and treated with multiple colors of patina. This is how her sculptures from the “Sunday Morning” collection are created.
Veerle first gained experience in a foundry for works of art. She then took classes at the local academy for several years and further skilled herself in design and finishing of her bronze sculptures.
