Maarten VAESSEN
1969
Maarten Vaessen is a professional artist who creates expressive iron rust sculptures. He has no specific art training which explains the spontaneity of his work. His sculptures, which are ideally suited to be placed outdoors, are mostly abstract. Characteristic of Maarten’s work are unfinished weld seams and weld spatters, often intentionally caused and sought after. The large sculptures are made of untreated iron and are sometimes combined with heavy, sturdy hardwood pedestals. Despite (or is it because of?) the raw materials, Maarten Vaessen’s sculptures have a great poetic content. Maarten exhibits at many locations at home and abroad (mainly the Netherlands and Germany).
