Leo GERRITSEN

1951

After his training in Breda, Leo Gerritsen (b. 1951) completed many commissions for schools and other public buildings. In recent years, however, he has focused on his own autonomous development. Here he follows his love for architectural constructions.

From his art training, he began to occupy himself with building architectural objects from Corten steel. Structures for outdoors, with an idiosyncratic appearance. Self-willed and autonomous in character. But besides this willfulness, there is also a functional side to his objects. Curious birds can discover them and nest in them. And so nature becomes part of art. This line of thought drives the process. The result is a mix of autonomous art, architecture, functionality and nature conservation.
