Jonneke Kodde (Uithoorn 1958) continued to develop herself in the technique of modeling and sculpture after her training at the Vrije Leergangen in Amsterdam. She quickly became known for her slender dynamic bird sculptures.

Her inspiration often comes directly from nature: slender flying birds migrating to the next destination or returning to former places. Thereby observation is essential because the movement of wings must be captured in a moment.

Always looking at nature, she stores the images in her memory, which she later tries to give shape in her studio as neatly as possible.

She searches for the limits of what is still technically possible in bronze. As a basis for modeling she uses black wax because in this material the slender forms can be built up strikingly so that later the heavy bronze still gives the impression that the composition comes loose and flies.

She got the inspiration for her bird sculptures from her father Piet van den Brandt who was a sincere lover of nature in all its simplicity.
