Edward VANDAELE
1962
“Art cannot be modern, art is eternal.”
A quote from Egon Schiele, an artist who strongly influences the work of Edward Vandaele. However, Vandaele does not simply depict, he wants to use his immagination when depicting. Expression, tragedy, strength and rhythm are the pillars that keep the work extremely captivating. His athletic figures do not manifest themselves in a dreamy, subdued or introspective manner, but effervesce with conjunctive vitality and drive for victory.
Edward could not hide his admiration for Egon Schiele. Today, this expressive component in his work is fused with the elegance of a romanticism one might discover in a majestic ballet scene. With his “Three Graces” he shows himself to be a controlled anatomist, where, in addition to the form, the power of expression is also important.
