Artist’s vision:
In the investigation of reality, a few lines draw out: “the not-knowing and the not-being”. After all, within the various forms that art can have, two forms seem to me to be the most interesting. Art as a commentary on current events and art that probes for meanings.
Intuitively, I feel akin to the second form.
Personal reflections and the timeless questions of being. This ontological approach to art is on the one hand problematic because of its difficult to materialize nature, on the other hand it is fascinating because it holds the promise of grasping the unspeakable and thus nurturing the illusion of understanding “being.”
Thus a new reality emerges that is contemporary but, because its roots are in the classical canon, familiar and alienating at the same time.
Most of the sculptures exist on their own but each highlights a partial aspect of the central theme: Identity. (Who am I, who do I want to be?).
The work leaves the viewer with the illusion of looking at a sculpture that is outside of him or herself.
Figures cherish the thought of escaping everyday banality.
