Refined pair of late 19th / early 20th -century glass candlesticks made by the French glass factory of Vallérysthal-Portieux.
They are made of partly clear and partly etched glass, creating a beautiful contrast between shiny and matte surfaces.
The base of the candlesticks is richly decorated with stylised dolphins, while the shaft is adorned with a snake-shaped ring.
Vallérysthal Portieux is a French glass and crystal factory with a rich history. The Portieux glass factory was founded in 1705 in the French Vosges. The Vallérysthal factory was founded in 1836 in the Alsace region. The two companies merged in 1870, combining their expertise and traditions. Around 1905, during its heyday, the factory employed approximately 1,300 people. The company survived both world wars but, after a turbulent period, was taken over by the Groupe Faience Niderwiller in 1996.
Both candlesticks are in very good vintage condition.
